The brochure only gives an OEM-style part number. Was the 3000 series in production in '82?

This is the studio monitor variant of the Model 14, so same 'no name' 12" woofer, etc.. It sounded more like a HIFI speaker compared to a 9844, i.e. smoother, more laid back and of course better off axis response. A bunch of these would make a great high end HT sound system, though with no correct woofer repair/replacement.............

A 3124/902/assymetric Manta should make a really nice, affordable HIFI (SS) 2 way. much smaller than the 'normal' Altec footprint (@~3-4CF), and all available new from GPA.

I bought a pair off eBay back in April. OG had posted the link. The ad said "one is not responding" When the seller lowered the Buy it now price to $300 I picked them up. It turned out to be a loose wire on one of the drivers.To my relatively untrained ear they sound fantastic! I have to admit these are my first Altec's but my listening habits have gone from something in the background to the main course! Just about everything I've learned about audio I've gotten from reading this Board regularly for the past year. Thanks to OG for the original link and thank all of you for sharing your knowledge. It's been a great education.

Pano got a similar deal on a set of VOTT's with a supposedly blown driver...in his case I think it was a short and the old fellow who owned them was attempting to avoid being evicted by a redhead who shall remain nameless...
